OUR "REVIEW-IT" WINNER: BRENDA HOFF

Our "Review-It" Contest winner this month is Brenda Hoff, from Kansas, for her review of Sylvia Woods' All the Pretty Little Horses sheet music. How appropriate for our Earth Day Celebration Sale!

Brenda's review:All The Pretty Little Horses sheet music by Sylvia Woods
"I have loved this song since I first heard it. I am intrigued by the songs from the Appalachian mountain folk. It is so haunting. I had been looking for an arrangement for this, and was excited to find Sylvia's version. I love all of Sylvia's arrangements, and have most of her books and sheet music (and will eventually get them all!). Sylvia's arrangements all are so playable, and I like the fingerings she chooses. This arrangement starts out with a very simple bass accompaniment to the melody, and then each verse is progressively more complex. This melodic song touches my heart. I include it in my program of lullabies. The fifths in the melody of this song are reminiscent of Wayfaring Stranger and Motherless Child, for which Sylvia arranged a 'Spiritual Medley' in the same key, so I play the two arrangements together."

Brenda HoffHere's what Brenda tells us about herself:
"I've been a musician my entire life, starting with the piano in first grade. I became a harpist as an adult, and was instantly smitten. Harping is truly my passion. I have a Camac Clio Semi-Grand, a Triplett 34-string Celtic, and a Dusty Strings FH-26.
I have a large repertoire of solo music, including classical, Celtic, romantic, show tunes, contemporary, New Age, sacred, Jewish, Asian, and Christmas music. I stay busy with performances at weddings, parties, and various functions, especially around the holidays. I love bringing pleasure to people through sharing my music.
Besides being a professional musician, I also am an occupational therapist and a sign language interpreter. I live in the Kansas City area with my husband, 8-year-old daughter, two cats and a dog. I am teaching my daughter to play the piano."

- Brenda Hoff
