| Ruth's Bio
I found the harp world through handbells…I direct the handbell choir in which Sylvia regularly plays! I’m the daughter of musicians and therefore had little choice about becoming a musician myself, so I began studying music at an early age. Like many musicians, I wear a number of hats depending on the day and situation, including alto soloist, choral section leader, conductor and even music editor!
At the Harp Center, I’m the self-proclaimed Fixer of Typos, but I also perform tasks that are actually assigned to me. I answer phones, assist customers in the store, and help out with processing internet and mail orders when things get busy around here. In addition to those tasks, I’ve been given the very descriptive title of Special Projects Administrative Minion (or “SPAM”); this is a fancy way of saying that I help Sylvia with a wide variety of esoteric projects that keep the business rolling.
In addition to my duties at the Harp Center, I conduct the handbell choirs at a local church. I’m alto soloist at another local church, so Sunday mornings are always busy…once I remember where I’m supposed to be going! I’ve been married for 15 years and have two lively kids so family life and all its attendant activities keep me constantly on the move. I’m noted for baking outrageous cakes for special occasions (of course, I’m trying to figure out how to do a 3-D harp-shaped cake!), and am easily distracted by sparkly objects.
