Impromptu demonstrates a relatively carefree tone in relation to Fauré's other works for harp. It opens with fortissimo chords with a major melody that is repeated throughout the piece, marked Allegro molto moderato. A second, darker, theme is presented that transforms and builds until reaching the work's climax. Many of the sections require sudden dynamic and tempo changes, and there are rapid arpeggios, pedal movements, rolled chords, and octaves throughout. Includes some pedal markings. 13 pages. For PEDAL harp only.
