Alphonse Hasselmans (1845-1912) is considered by many to be the granddad of harp playing, as he was among the first handful of harpists to teach at the Paris Conservatory. He inspired many of the harpists and teachers to come, including Renié, Tournier, Salzedo, and Grandjany to name a few! He is well-known for his many compositions that were written as teaching pieces for his students. He also revised, transcribed, and edited etudes and earlier works for the harp.
