This book of 22 newly composed solos by Jeannie Kern Chenette progresses easily from one piece to the next, moving the student from beginning to intermediate levels. The pieces are varied, interesting and musically satisfying. Many essential harp techniques are introduced, such as 2-4 finger techniques, glissandos, thumb slides, and lever or pedal changes. This book is extremely well thought out. As Jeannie explains in her introduction, “most of the pieces utilize the colored strings as structural components. This can ease sight-reading of the piece and aid in quick placements. If you pay close attention, you will find your fingers gravitating to the colored strings; most of the outer range notes are likely to be F or C as well.”
The pieces can be played on pedal harp, or lap or lever harps with at least 22 strings (C to C). Fingerings, brackets, and dynamics are indicated. A variety of time signatures are presented, and the keys range from 3 flats to 1 sharp. 27 pages.
