Cynthia Cathcart is the author of several fine books for players of the wire-strung harp (also called a clarsach or metal-strung harp).
This book of thirty Christmas carols comprises new clarsach arrangements which span the range from beginner to advanced, utilizing several different arranging styles.
No levers are necessary to perform the arrangements in this book. Only very minor re-tuning on some selections is necessary: on an instrument normally tuned with only F strings sharp, no more than one string will need to be re-tuned for each consecutive arrangement. A special index offers guidance to the carols that fit on the small clarsach with a range extending to the G below middle C.
Historical and performance notes are given for many of the arrangements. The introduction includes an essay on the history of the Christmas carol, illustrations of the notation used in the book for damping and ringing, and a description of a special fingering technique published here for the first time.
