5000 years ago, the ancient Egyptians began to record their ideas, findings and events of their daily lives in manuscript form, on papyrus. The most ancient writing material, the papyrus, was manufactured using an aquatic plant long-cultivated in the delta of the river Nile. The inner portion of the stem was sliced longitudinally into strips. The strips were placed side by side, in an alternating horizontal and vertical pattern, on a flat stone, then soaked in water and pressed under a heavy stone for 21 days. The juice of the plant acted as an adhesive that bonded the strips together forming a sheet, which was finally hammered, and dried in the sun.
Our hand-painted art on genuine papyrus is made in Egypt, using real papyrus plants and ancient techniques. The art is hand painted in the purest tradition of the pharaonic art by Egyptian fine artists, who accurately reproduce art pieces found in ancient temples, pyramids and tombs. Since each piece is hand-painted, some variation will occur.
The papyrus background is tan, and the colors in the painting are primarily black, brown, blue, green, silver, and gold. The image is about 5" tall on a piece of papyrus about 3¾" x 6¾".
