arranged for beginning and advanced harpists
Book
Sylvia has recently revised this popular book of arrangements of the famous Canon by Johann Pachelbel. The book includes two sections: one in the original key of D, and one in the key of G. Each section comes complete with several versions: an intermediate solo; a more difficult solo; a harp duet; and an arrangement for harp and flute, violin, or other solo instrument. Fingerings are included. For intermediate to advanced players. 40 pages, spiral-bound.
Sylvia Woods has written an article to help you learn to play this piece. You can find How Great Danes and Bears Can Help You Learn To Play Pachelbel's Canon in our Helpful Articles section.
Companion CD
On this Companion CD Sylvia Woods plays most of the arrangements in her books Pachelbel’s Canon by Johann Pachelbel, and Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring by Johann Sebastian Bach.
The purpose of this CD is to assist harp players learning these pieces. Since many players will want to “play along” with the CD as they are learning, Sylvia has recorded them slower than they are usually played, and as “straight” as possible, with little or no expression or rhythmic variations. The Canon was recorded at a metronome marking of 92, and Jesu at 100. In all of the duet versions, one harp part is on one track of the stereo, and the second harp part (or the flute part) is on the other. If your CD player or your speakers allow you to turn down one channel, you can play along hearing just one part.
The three versions of the Canon are played first in the original key of D, and then in the key of G. You can play the Advanced Harp Solo along with the Easy Harp Solo on the CD. The flute player took some liberties with which octave the notes are played, to fit into the range of the flute.
None of the versions of Jesu include the repeat, they go straight to the second ending. You can play the Pedal Harp Solo version of Jesu along with either duet version on the CD.
We're offering a set of this book, Sylvia Woods' Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring book, and the Companion CD at $3 off the price of the products if purchased separately. See the ordering options above.
