Pedal or Lever Harp

Scottish Harp Collection #1 arranged by Evelyn Tiffany-Castiglioni PDF Download

Item #p7714

For lever or pedal harp.

This collection of 8 Scottish tunes is intended for three audiences:
harpers looking for traditionally arranged Scottish tunes for competition and performance;
classically trained harpists who are interested in Scottish music;
and lever harp players who would like arrangements that illuminate their instrument's unique beauties.

The tunes are playable on full range lever harps and pedal harps. These songs from the nineteenth century and earlier have been carefully selected for their suitability on harp. Selection criteria were that they lay well under the fingers, are enhanced by the rhythmic and tonal properties of the plucked string and its overtones, and are musically interesting. The airs were chosen for their melodic beauty. Evelyn Tiffany-Castiglioni's arrangements are traditional in style with ornamented melodies, open chords, and spare harmonies.

Several features add to the usefulness of the book.
First, tunes are given in two keys, one in all naturals or one sharp, the other in one or two flats.
Second, abundant suggestions for fingering are given.
Third, levers or pedals need to be set only at the beginning of each piece, except for the Boat Songs, which require one lever or pedal change.
Finally, historical and performance notes on the music are provided, together with a list of sources.

For intermediate players. 39 pages.
