For lever or pedal harp.
This fun book by Louise Trotter includes 6 original descriptive solos for lever harp, pedal harp, or piano, with historical notes and yummy regional recipes. The pieces are 2 to 5 pages long, with just a few fingerings. Three of the pieces are in the key of C, with no lever changes. The Pink Coyote is in the key of G (1 sharp), all the Ds are sharped before you begin, and there is one C# and 2 B-flat lever changes. Tall Cactus Tango is in D minor (1 flat), with C#s set before you begin. There are numerous F, C, and B lever changes within the piece. Canyon Sunrise is in the key of G, with several B-flat changes.
These arragnements are for intermediate players, and the total PDF is 32 pages.
The southwestern recipes include green chile casserole, fajitas, guacamole, pico de gallo, chicken enchiladas, and nachos.
Here’s Louise’s description of the music from her introduction.
As a native of Texas and frequent visitor to New Mexico and Arizona, I feel very drawn to musical descriptions of this area of the country. Although the settlers had a European origin, the Mexicans and Native American Indians also contributed a great deal to our cultural heritage. I have included short historical notes and regional recipes inspired by these cultures to enhance your enjoyment of the music. The recipes were taken from local church and club cookbooks.
The music ranges from serious to lighthearted, and is not difficult on a pedal harp. Using a lever harp, you may find passages with more lever-flipping than is comfortable. Feel free to eliminate as many notes as it takes to get the tune across. I hope you enjoy playing them, and share a little bit of my flavor of the great American Southwest!
