This is the first book of harp music that I ever purchased, and it remains one of my favorites. I bought it in college because I enjoyed Patrick Ball's CDs of Turlogh O'Carolan's music. At that time, I didn't play the harp, but I was determined to learn some day. Now, years later, several songs in this book have become a part of my standard repertoire. Some of my particular favorites are Carolan's Welcome, Lady Gethin, Morgan Magan, and Carolan's Quarrel with the Landlady.
Always Useful and Always Enjoyable

I've bought many books of Irish music and have many different arrangements of Carolan tunes in my library, but this is the book I always come back to. This is the book that I throw in my bag along to take along to gigs "just in case." When I was a beginner, I labored over the simple arrangements. Now many of Sylvia's ideas are a jumping-off point for my own approach to these tunes. The fingerings are sound and a wonderful way to learn how to finger harp music when you're getting started. The music clear, easy to read, and because the arrangements are not extended, there are no hideous page turns. I have a raft of Sylvia Woods' books, but this one will always be cloest to my heart. And who would have thought that? Especially since I told my first teacher that I didn't "particularly care for Irish music." Little did I know what Irish music could be.
Very Useful and a good "sit down and play" book

I pick up this book and play these lovely tunes just for the fun of it. VERY useful for gigs!! If you're just starting to play celtic music, this is a great book. Great songs. Intermedete level.
Excellent Arrangements

This book contains all of the O'Carolan repertoire I could possibly ever need, in lovely and clear arrangements. As with other Sylvia Woods books, it grows with the musician. As you develop more skills, you can begin playing the more advanced arrangements. An excellent value.
