Dr. Alfredo Rolando Ortiz is an internationally acclaimed soloist of the "arpa paraguaya" (Paraguayan harp): a composer, author, educator and recording artist. He was born in Cuba, and moved with his family to Venezuela at age 11. Four years later he began studying the Venezuelan folk harp, and the next year started on the Paraguayan harp. He began his medical studies in Medellin, Colombia, supporting himself with his music. After graduation he moved to the United States to continue his studies of Music Therapy. He worked in the medical field for 8 years, but then decided to dedicate his life to his family and to his first love: the harp. Alfredo has recorded over forty albums and is the winner of a Gold Record in South America. His music books are invaluable for anyone wanting to learn the techniques and repertoire of the South American harps.

Alfredo wrote an article for Sylvia's monthly e-newsletter, telling about his harp journey. You can read the article here.
