Pedal or Lever Harp

Moonlight PDF Download by Douglas Beck

Item #p7672

For lever or pedal harp.

Douglas Beck's "Moonlight" includes three new pieces inspired by Respighi, Beethoven, Vivaldi, and other well-known composers. Here's how Douglas describes the music in this collection.

"Moonlight" is the fuller version of a simpler arrangement I made at the request of one of my beginning harp students who wanted to play Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata."

"Siciliana" is inspired by Respighi's "Ancient Airs and Dances." Many of Respighi's works are based on earlier music of the 16th and 17th centuries. Some versions of this rustic dance appear under the title of "Spagnoletta."

"Variations on La Folia" is based on one of Europe's oldest known musical themes, according to BBC Music. The music's captivating, repetitive nature has captured the imaginations of composers including Corelli, J.S. Bach, Vivaldi, Handel, Beethoven, Liszt, and Rachmaninoff, to name but a few. The term la folia refers to the ground bass line and harmonic structure that the piece is built upon. Early musicians performed improvisations upon this foundation or ground.

This collection contains nine pages of music, introductory notes, no lever changes, and minimal fingerings. The playing level is intermediate to early advanced. Two of the pieces have an F# in the key signature. The pieces may be played successfully on harps with 34 or more strings.
