"Azure" was originally written for an adult student whose small lap harp had a limited number of strings. Finding enjoyable music for this size instrument was challenging, so I wrote a piece specifically for my student. She is a writer and philosopher with a deep soul, has a keen interest in sound and color, and is a music teacher herself. This piece memorializes our relationship and time together.

"Azure" is for solo lever or pedal harp, in the key of C, in 3/4 time. It is one page, with no lever or pedal changes required. The lowest note is G below middle C, the highest is G in the second octave above middle C. Chord symbols are included, with just a few fingerings. The left hand alternates between the bass and treble clefs.

"Azure" is a composition that provides an opportunity for a performer or teacher and student to explore:
