The Happy Harps curriculum is a step-by-step approach that combines satisfying repertoire with a solid foundation in technique and theory/note reading. Level 1A is for very young students, or older students (including adults) with little or no experience on another instrument. It requires a 26-string harp with or without levers. Topics covered include note values, finger numbers, brackets and placing, glissando, the music alphabet, measures, time signatures, dynamic markings, replacing, intervals, the staff, and landmark notes on the grand staff.
Level 1B Level 1B is for any student who has completed Level 1A. Topics covered include adding the third finger, half and whole steps, sharps and naturals, gesture/raising, parallel and contrary motion, eighth and dotted quarter note rhythms, key signatures, p.d.l.t., basic triads, and arpeggios. This book requires a 26-string harp with levers. 60 pages.
Complete Level 1 Complete Level 1 is for students who already read music. It basically covers the same material as Level 1A and 1B, with a few changes to the pieces and the order of the concepts. This volume requires a 26-string harp with levers. Topics covered include the use of fingers one and two (with finger three added midway), brackets and replacing, glissando, dynamics, intervals, sharps and naturals, gesture/raising, parallel and contrary motion, key signatures, time signatures and rhythms, p.d.l.t., basic triads, and arpeggios. 79 pages.
Level 2 Level 2 is for students who have completed Level 1B or Complete Level 1. This book requires a 34-string harp with full levers. Topics covered include the use of all four fingers, flats, tempo markings, major and minor keys, 16th note rhythms, chord inversions, harmonics, cross-overs and cross-unders, and transposition, as well as some Western music history. 62 pages.
