Subtitle: Songs and Dances of Old England Arranged for Lap Harp

Here's how Suzanne describes this collection.
All of the pieces in this book can be played on a lap harp with a range of just two and a half octaves (from C up to G). However, on a small harp you will need to play an octave higher than the music is written, treating middle C as low C. The pieces can also be played on a larger harp or on guitar, violin, flute, recorder, or any melody instrument. To keep the pieces easy to play on small harps with limited sharing lever I have arranged them in the keys of C and G, and their related minors and modes.

The songs and dances in this collection span the period between the end of Queen Elizabeth's reign and the beginning of Queen Victoria's reign. Many changes and much turmoil occurred during that period: the English Civil War; the rise and fall of the Commonwealth; the American Revolution; the Napoleonic Wars; and the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. Throughout all of these changes, the English people held on to their love of music and dance. Even the puritanical Commonwealth failed to stamp it out.

From country dances to ballads and love songs, from sea shanties to drinking songs, the music in this collection deals with subjects dear to the hearts of the people: songs of love and death, and the turning of the seasons, stories of shipwrecks and near escapes, and the adventures of that famous hero of song and story, Robin Hood.

In keeping the music alive, we carry on a long tradition and make the past live in the present.

This collection includes 27 pieces. Each piece is one or two pages long. Fingerings and chord symbols are included. The music is in the keys of C or G (1 sharp). Two pieces require one G# lever to be set at the beginning. One piece has a G# lever change within the music, and another has a C# lever change. This 57-page PDF includes lyrics and historical notes for the songs, as well as illustrations by the author.
