For lever or pedal harp.
Máire Ni Chathasaigh was one of my very first Irish harp heroes. I sold her books for many years. I am very excited to sell her arrangements once again. Here's how I described this book back in the 1990s.
Máire ni Chathasaigh is an extraordinary harper from Ireland. She has evolved her own style for traditional ornaments and is known for her performances of Irish dance music. This book includes 20 pieces for intermediate to advanced folk harp players, including O'Carolan tunes, slip jigs, double jigs, reels, hornpipes, polkas, mazurkas, marches, slides, and two songs for voice with harp accompaniment. All pieces are in sharp keys, with some fingerings. Maire gives helpful information on playing the different types and styles of Irish dance music.
And, here is how Máire describes this book.
This book contains the first arrangements of Irish traditional dance tunes ornamented in an authentic style ever to be published, and sold out its first print run of 1,000 copies within weeks of publication in 1991.
The fruit of many years experience of performing and teaching Irish traditional music to harpers by the pioneer in the field, it represented the first attempt in print to analyze and explain the aesthetic principles which inform the stylistically correct performance of this music on the harp. Most of these ground-breaking arrangements are of traditional Irish dance music, but also included are two songs and some unusual settings of the music of Turlough O'Carolan.
