North Carolina Teachers

Bethany teaches private lessons for children and adults at her studio, as well as through Zoom, FaceTime, and Skype. She will also travel to the homes of local students. No previous musical training is required. Bethany teaches all musical styles, specializing in classical and orchestral music. She also teaches improvisation and music theory. Bethany studied with Sally Duran, Helen Rifas, Carol McClure, and Joan Holland. She has a Bachelors in Music from Union University, and a Masters of Music in Harp Performance from the University of Michigan. She has been teaching since 2013.

"My goal for each lesson is to equip students with the skills they need to confidently and joyfully play the harp. I welcome students of all ages and skill levels, teaching both lever and pedal harp and integrating aural training and theory into lessons so that the student gains mastery over all aspects of music. With my background in the two prominent harp methods "French" and "Salzedo" as well as in the British music education system ABRSM, I have the experience necessary to meet student's individual needs."

Kristen teaches private and group lessons for children and adults at her studio, as well as through Skype. No previous musical training is required. Kristen teaches music theory to her students. She has Bachelors and Masters degrees in Harp, and has been teaching since 2014.

Susan teaches private lessons for children and adults at her studio. No previous musical training is required. She teaches all musical styles, specializing in classical and early music. She also teaches improvisation and music theory, and offers information about local recitals, concerts, and workshops to her students. Susan studied with Monica Hargrave and has had coursework in Music Theory, Music History, Music Appreciation, Ed Psych, and Psychology. She has been teaching since 1999.

"I have played in ensembles on various instruments and have much church music experience. I have performed in cantatas, accompanied choirs, given solo recitals, played weddings, memorial services, numerous church services, a building dedication, Mother's Day Teas from places as diverse as The Ritz-Carlton Pentagon City, Quantico, Old Town Hall of Fairfax, Va., The Mint Museums, Charlotte; Calvary Church, Charlotte, Fernbank Museum, Atlanta; and for diplomats and ambassadors. I have patience and modified Salzedo-training."

Kathleen teaches private and group lessons for children and adults at her studio, as well as through Skype. No previous musical training is required. Kathleen teaches all musical styles. She offers harp ensembles and harp circles for her students. Kathleen studied with Alice Chalifoux, Xiao Lei Salovara, Laura Erb, Barbara Geiser, Gloria Steinbeck, and Bonnie Biggs. She has been teaching since 1996.

Andrea teaches private and group lessons for children and adults at her studio, a church, and a community music school. She also teaches through Skype, and will travel to the homes of local students. No previous musical training is required. She has pedal harps and lever harps for rent to her students. Andrea teaches all musical styles, specializing in classical and Celtic music. She also teaches composition, arranging, improvisation and music theory. She offers spring and winter recitals and the Capital Harp Ensemble for her students to perform. Andrea has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Furman University, and is currently getting certified as a Clinical Musician for Music therapy. She studied with Elinor Neimisto and Anita Burroughs-Price, and has been teaching since 2010.

Christina teaches private and group lessons for children and adults at her studio, and at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington. No previous musical training is required. She has lever harps for rent to her students. Christina teaches classical, orchestral, pop, Celtic and folk music, as well as music theory. She offers recitals, harp circles, and harp ensembles for her students. Christina studied with Kathleen Bride and Jeanne Henderson, and has been teaching since 2007. She has a Masters in harp performance from Eastman School of Music, and a Certification in Community Music Teaching.

Elena teaches private lessons for children and adults at her studio. No previous musical training is required. Elena teaches classical, Celtic, pop, and religious music. She studied with Elinor Niemisto, Min Kim and Sunita Staneslow, and has been teaching since 2006.

Sue teaches private and group lessons for children and adults at her studio, and at Black Mountain Arts Center. She also teaches through Skype. No previous musical training is required. Sue teaches Celtic and folk music, and also arranging and improvisation. She offers recitals and harp circles for her students. She studied with Lucy Lewis at Oberlin College and Jean Harriman at Ohio State University. She has been teaching since 1978.

"I also coach for Celtic competitions (Scottish Games, Irish) and for general performances. I coach ensembles and small groups. I encourage a sample lesson first, especially with children."

Nicole teaches private lessons for children and adults at her studio, as well as through Zoom and FaceTime. She will also travel to the homes of local students. No previous musical training is required. Nicole teaches music theory and classical, Celtic, and religious music. She offers recitals and harp ensembles for her students. She studied with Gretchen VanHoesen, Principal Harpist Pittsburgh Symphony, and Anne-Margurite Michaud. She has been teaching since 2002.

"Nicole is currently accepting harp students of all ages and experience levels interested in both classical and traditional harp music on pedal and lever harps. She can help with rental or purchase options for students looking at starting the harp."
