The Japanese Harp is a collection of 21 Japanese folk songs taken from Koto literature. Deborah Dahl Shanks' arrangements endeavor to stay true to the musical and cultural style of the Japanese music while being very accessible for the pedal or lever harpist of a late beginner to intermediate ability. Keys range from 1 flat through 2 sharps. Please note that each piece may be in different keys in the Lap Harp, Small Harp, and Large Harp versions. There are no lever changes within the pieces. Sheep Fast Asleep, a traditional Christmas Carol, also includes chord symbols. There are no fingerings.
Each PDF is 27 pages long, including 22 pages of music. Deborah has also included an informative page about the Japanese koto and its music.
The music examples below are from the version for larger harps.
